Description
The Hot Cat 45 revisits Bad Cat’s original 2005 design with added flexibility for players who want more than one flavor of tone at their feet. Channel 1 delivers the brand’s signature sparkling clean voice, bright on top and full in the low end, while Channel 2 turns up the heat with a high-gain character that keeps note separation clear even under heavy saturation. A Lo/Hi gain switch on both channels expands the range considerably: Channel 1 can shift from wide-open clean headroom into ’70s-flavored crunch, and Channel 2 splits into two distinct gain characters spanning bluesy crunch to metal-ready saturation.
Reverb is tuned separately for each channel, so the ambience always matches the voice you’re playing through. A buffered effects loop handles both analog stompboxes and digital rack units without coloring your signal. The included two-button footswitch lets you jump between channels and Lo/Hi modes on the fly, effectively giving you four distinct tonal settings from a single amp head.
Under the hood, 2x EL34 power tubes and 4x 12AX7 preamp tubes drive 45 watts through hand-wound Bad Cat transformers, with shared bass/mid/treble controls plus independent gain and volume per channel, and a global master volume and presence control. The Baltic birch cabinet keeps things sturdy and light for a tube head, at roughly 20.75″ x 10.375″ x 10″ and 31 lb.
