Description
The 6505 Piranha shrinks the legendary 6505 down to a compact metal box without losing an ounce of its attitude. At 20 Watts RMS into 4 Ohms, it’s built for bedrooms, studios, and tight rehearsal spaces rather than filling arenas, but the Crunch and Lead channels still deliver the same raw, aggressive gain the series is known for.
Tone shaping is intentionally stripped back: Pre-Gain and Post-Gain controls set your saturation, while a single-knob EQ sweeps between scooped, notchy thrash and thick, boosted metal voicings. A lone 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tube handles the heavy lifting, and swapping it out lets you reshape the amp’s character almost as dramatically as changing a full preamp tube set in the standard 6505 Head — a fun rabbit hole for tone tinkerers.
Practical routing options make the Piranha more versatile than its size suggests. A buffered Effects Loop simplifies connecting pedals or re-amping, while the Auxiliary Input lets you feed outside sources straight into the power amp section. A headphone jack keeps late-night practice quiet, and you can even run the Effects Send into a larger amp’s input to use the Piranha purely as a 6505 preamp driver.
Pair it with the ultra-portable 6505 Piranha 1×8 cabinet for a grab-and-go rig, or step up to the Peavey 112-6, 212-6, or full-size 6505 412 cabinets when you want that unmistakable 6505 growl at real volume.
