Peavey built the original 6505 to give metal players an amp that could translate raw aggression into stage-ready volume, and the 6505 II carries that mission forward for a new generation. Under the hood you’ll find six 12AX7 preamp tubes feeding a 6L6GC power section and a custom output transformer, producing 120 watts of headroom that stays composed even at arena volume. The plexiglass front panel is a deliberate nod to the amp’s roots, keeping the visual identity intact while the circuit continues to evolve.
The two footswitchable channels are independently voiced, each with its own 3-band EQ, Resonance, and Presence controls for shaping low-end punch and top-end bite separately on rhythm and lead tones. Pre gain and Post gain knobs on both channels let you dial in everything from a controlled edge-of-breakup crunch to a fully saturated wall of distortion. The Rhythm channel adds a footswitchable Crunch boost plus a Bright switch, so you can move from glassy cleans to thick, gnashing rhythm tones without touching a knob mid-song.
Round out the feature set with a Preamp Out jack for direct recording or slaving to a power amp, and a built-in effects loop for adding time-based effects after the gain stages where they belong.
