Description
The Overdrive Supreme HRM-50 takes Fuchs’ original ODS preamp — itself rooted in the D-style circuits of the ’70s and ’80s — and reworks it around a ’90s-influenced architecture. The headline addition is an internal post-overdrive tone stack, giving you full control over highs, mids, and lows after the gain stages rather than just before them. That means your clean and dirty voices can be shaped independently and dialed to exact preference, while the overdrive itself retains an unusually smooth cleanup response when you back off the guitar’s volume.
Tonally, expect articulate detail alongside a warm, organic character rather than a harsh or one-dimensional overdrive. The front end borrows several refinements from Fuchs’ Clean Machine, including gain boost, mid boost with a selectable frequency point, and a mid/low turnover switch that shifts where those controls operate in the frequency spectrum — opening up a broader palette of clean tones than earlier ODS designs offered.
Under the hood, this 50-watt head runs on a pair of 6L6 power tubes and benefits from nearly a decade of ODS development: a revised series/parallel effects loop, an updated reverb circuit with internal dwell adjustment, and a higher-current raw DC power supply built for stronger dynamic response. Voicing and final tuning were handled personally by Andy Fuchs and Scott Lerner.
