Description
The Baroni HW-103 is part of Baroni’s Recording Tube Amp Series, five compact units each built around a genuine high-voltage tube preamp circuit engineered to capture the full personality of a specific amp legend. This one is tuned to the HiWatt sound — that stately, headroom-rich British clean-to-crunch character prized by studio and stage players alike.
Rather than a simple gain box, the HW-103 reproduces the entire signal path of a real HiWatt head, including power stage behavior, depth and presence response, and cabinet coloration, via its 100% analog VARICAB circuit. One knob puts it all under your fingers: dial in feedback response like a real tube power amp, twist counterclockwise for added punch and low-end weight, or clockwise to open up air and top-end sparkle.
Each unit in the series carries a tone stack faithful to its reference amp (the HW-103 included), plus dedicated Gain and Volume controls governing the high-voltage preamp and the simulated power amp stage. A buffered FX loop lets you slot delays, reverbs, or other time-based effects after the distortion, right where they belong. Two front-panel toggles let you bypass VARICAB entirely — handy when running your own IRs or VSTs — and switch ground lift on or off. A separate Main Out lets the HW-103 function purely as a preamp feeding a traditional amp’s power section.
