Bad Cat built the Jet Black by doubling down on the EL84 formula, running a quartet of these tubes to deliver 38 watts of headroom for players who outgrew the smaller Black Cat but still wanted that same responsive, pick-driven feel. It’s a head that stays agile even wide open, letting your guitar’s volume knob and your attack do the shaping rather than fighting the amp for control.
Two channels handle very different jobs. Channel one is a reworked clean/edge-of-breakup voice — forward and articulate, with shimmering in-between tones and enough push to move into gain territory when you dig in. Channel two is the new addition, built for rock tones that reference decades of amp history without copying any one of them. A redesigned 3-band EQ centers itself at noon, so dialing in brightness or warmth for your room or cabinet doesn’t require extreme settings, and the midrange has a bark that cuts without turning harsh.
Reverb and tremolo are tuned specifically for this amp’s character — the reverb stays lush and quiet, while the tremolo offers adjustable depth and speed. Every Jet Black also includes a buffered, transparent FX loop for pedal users, a line out for IR-based recording or reamping, multiple speaker output options, and a two-button footswitch for channel switching and tremolo on/off.
