Description
The 5150 Iconic Series takes the DNA of the celebrated 5150III line and packages it into a 40-watt 1×12 combo that stays true to Eddie Van Halen’s searing, gain-soaked legacy. James Brown, the amp designer behind the sound, built this combo around two 6L6 power tubes and a hybrid preamp driven by a pair of ECC83 tubes, giving players the touch-sensitivity and harmonic bite that made the original 5150 famous.
Inside the MDF cabinet, internal plywood baffling tightens up low-end response, while a custom EVH-voiced 12″ Celestion speaker keeps everything from glassy cleans to high-gain leads clear and defined rather than muddy or washed out.
- Two channels (Green and Red), each with its own gain and volume, plus a channel-specific voicing switch: an overdrive button on Green for pushing past clean into breakup, and a burn button on Red for extra crunch under solos
- Channel two noise gate with fast attack for clean staccato playing without choking sustain
- Foot-switchable Boost adds roughly 10dB of volume so leads jump out of the mix
- Shared Low/Mid/High EQ, plus global resonance, presence, and reverb controls for shaping room feel
- Two-button footswitch, effects loop, dual parallel speaker outputs, half-power switch for lower-volume tube crank, and a speaker-emulated DI XLR out with power amp mute for direct recording or PA use
The Black textured vinyl finish pairs with a black cloth grille, silver-and-black 5150 and EVH badges, brushed aluminum top panel, chicken-head knobs, and a molded plastic top handle. A fitted cover is sold separately as an EVH accessory.
