Description
The Laurel Canyon marks a new chapter for Matchless: their first amp built around a pair of 6V6 power tubes, inspired by the sound of the songwriters who once called Laurel Canyon home. Rather than chase raw volume, this design targets the sweet spot between grab-and-go portability and full tonal range, housed in a cabinet sized specifically for players who need less bulk without a smaller sound.
At 20 watts, driven by three 12AX7 preamp tubes, dual 6V6 power tubes, and a 5AR4 rectifier, the Laurel Canyon has enough headroom for clean, chiming rhythm tones while still breaking up into sizzling, singing leads when you push it. The single channel keeps things simple with Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble, and Master Volume controls, letting you dial in your voicing quickly on stage or in the studio.
Reverb is handled by two 12AX7/ECC83 tubes feeding a 2-spring tank, wired in parallel with the dry signal so dialing up wet ambience never costs you tone or output. A UK-made Celestion Heritage G12H30 (8 ohms) speaker rounds out the voice, with independent 4 and 8 ohm outs (use one at a time). An unbuffered 1/4″ send/return effects loop is on board for time-based effects like delay, chorus, or reverb pedals—keep gain and boost pedals up front to avoid clipping the phase inverter.
Every Laurel Canyon is hand-built to Matchless’ exacting standards: rugged steel chassis, military-spec components, and a heavy Baltic birch cabinet. Equally suited to home practice, studio sessions, or gigs of any size.
