Description
The ’68 Custom Twin Reverb carries forward the silverface-era design that made Fender’s late-’60s amps the standard backline for touring pros, now built around dual 12″ Celestion G12V-70 speakers for a slightly more aggressive, rock-leaning voice than the originals. With 85 watts on tap from a quartet of 6L6 power tubes, this combo delivers the kind of clean headroom that suits mid-to-large rooms, letting pedals stack cleanly on top without the amp folding early.
Both channels here get reverb and tremolo, a departure from vintage Twins. The Vintage channel keeps the traditional silverface tone stack for players chasing that classic scooped-mid chime, while the Custom channel swaps in a modified Bassman-style tone stack, opening up a broader tonal window that responds especially well to overdrive and fuzz pedals. Reduced negative feedback and a quicker gain onset sharpen touch response across both channels, and the preamp section (4x12AX7, 2x12AT7) feeds the power tubes with genuine tube-driven spring reverb and tube-driven vibrato baked into the circuit.
Housed in black textured vinyl with the period-correct silver-turquoise grille and aluminum drip-edge trim, the amp retains the skirted knobs, blue jewel pilot light, and tilt-back legs of its forebears.
